Marianne Quijano is a history doctoral candidate with a specialization in modern Central American history. Her previous master's-level research focused on the role of religion and medicine in Afro-Caribbean resistance during the construction of the Panama Canal. For her doctoral dissertation, she is currently researching the history of race, anthropology, and nationalism in twentieth-century Panama, both inside and outside the Panama Canal Zone. Outside of UF, she also enjoys playing guitar and spending time with her dog.
