Changes to General Education criteria have affected the University Writing Program’s courses. Please see below to find the course which best suits you. Remember to refer to your degree audit and an academic advisor if you have any questions about which course is best for you.
If you need the General Education Composition Credit (C) and the 6,000 Word Credit:
Composition (C) & 6,000 Words
- ENC 1101: Expository and Argumentative
- ENC 1102: Argument and Persuasion
- ENC 2256: Professional Writing in the Disciplines
- ENC 2305: Analytical Writing and Thinking
If you need the 6,000 Word Credit:
6,000 Words
- ENC 3246: Professional Communication for Engineers
- ENC 3252: Writing for Strategic Communication
- ENC 3453: Writing in the Health Professions
- ENC 3459: Writing in the Medical Sciences
- ENC 3464: Writing in Social Sciences
- ENC 3465: Writing in the Law
- ENC 3466: Writing in Communication Sciences
- ENC 3483: Writing in the Physical Sciences
If you are an engineering student please note the following changes.
- As of Summer B 2025, ENC 3246: Professional Communication for Engineers will only have the 6,000 Word Credit. If you do not need the Gen Ed Composition Credit (C), you are encouraged to take ENC 3246: Professional Communication for Engineers
- If you need the Gen Ed Composition Credit (C) and the 6,000 Word Credit, you are encouraged to take ENC 2256: Professional Writing in the Disciplines.
- However, some individual departments in the College of Engineering will have different requirements. Please consult with an academic advisor from your college to confirm that all requirements will be met properly.
