The University Writing Program Postdoctoral Fellowship offers junior scholars an opportunity to advance their pedagogical and scholarly skills in the context of rhetorical analysis and Writing in the Disciplines. Postdoctoral Fellows work alongside faculty in a collaborative environment to teach upper-level courses such as Writing in the Law, Writing in Medical Sciences, Writing in Engineers, and Writing in the Humanities and to develop courses in their own areas of interest. They hold a 3/3/2 position with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years. The Writing Program also provides support for scholarly research, academic service, and professionalization for a variety of career tracks.
In addition to receiving faculty mentorship and class observation, Postdoctoral Fellows share their research, classroom strategies, and professionalization materials during monthly workshops. They also present their innovative teaching techniques during faculty wide meetings, which have become unique occasions for engendering pedagogical debate. Given the increasingly competitive job market, the Writing Program offers mock interviews, job talks, and advice for career advancement.
Our Postdoctoral Fellows come from institutions across the United States and from diverse disciplines such as literature, education, media studies, gender studies, and creative writing. After completing the fellowship program, they have earned professorships at institutions such as the University of Southern California, Denison University, Alfred University, Keene State College, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Florida, while others have pursued communication-centered professions across the disciplines.
